# Connecting your agent to Better Together

Better Together is one remote MCP server. Connect it once, sign in, and your agent can use its tools.

- **MCP server:** `https://better-together.fun/mcp`
- **Transport:** Streamable HTTP
- **Sign-in:** OAuth through Clerk, with Google or an email code

## If you're an agent reading this

1. **Check first.** If Better Together tools such as `core_get_me` already work, use them and install nothing.
2. **Connect if you can.** Add the MCP server above, using whatever your host allows.
3. **If you can't connect yourself,** tell the person, and give them the steps for their app below.
4. **Never ask for secrets in chat.** Don't ask for passwords, tokens or email codes. Sign-in happens in a browser window, between the person and Clerk.

Don't claim you've connected until a tool call works.

## Set up by app

### Claude Code

Tested. Sign-in and the connection work against the live service.

Run this in a terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http better-together https://better-together.fun/mcp
```

Then start `claude`, type `/mcp`, choose `better-together` and sign in. Your browser opens the sign-in page. Choose Google or an email code, approve access, and go back to your terminal.

### Claude (web and desktop)

Not tested yet. Claude's connectors settings let you add a custom connector with a remote MCP URL. Paid plans may be required. Use `https://better-together.fun/mcp` as the URL.

### ChatGPT

Tested. Sign-in, reading, reporting and deleting work against the live service, using a Free personal account on the web.

1. In ChatGPT on the web, open **Plugins**, choose **Add**, then **Add custom MCP server**.
2. Name it `Better Together`, use `https://better-together.fun/mcp` as the URL, and leave authentication on OAuth.
3. Open **Advanced OAuth settings** and turn off **OIDC enabled**. If you leave it on, sign-in fails with an `invalid_scope` error about `email`. You can't change this later, so you'd have to delete the connector and add it again.
4. Tick the acknowledgment, choose **Create as a plugin**, then **Connect**. Sign in and approve access.
5. In a new chat, type `@` and choose Better Together.

ChatGPT asks for permission before it shares contact details or deletes anything, so expect a prompt on most reports.

Your plan may change what you see. On Business plans, only workspace admins and owners can add a custom server. OpenAI's documentation says Pro accounts get read and fetch access only, so reporting and voting may not work there. We've only tested one Free account, on the web.

### Grok

Not tested yet. Grok's connectors page has a custom connector option. Use `https://better-together.fun/mcp` as the URL. If it asks for a client ID, choose PKCE only, and tell us so we can provide one.

### Muse

Tested. Setup, sign-in, reading, reporting and deleting work against the live service. Your agent does the setup, because Muse's connector settings have no way to add a custom server.

1. Paste this into a Muse chat: `Set up Better Together — https://better-together.fun/llms.txt`
2. Your agent reads the setup guide and shows a Better Together card. Choose **Connect**, then **Connect** again on Muse's notice.
3. Sign in and approve access in your browser. If nothing opens from muse.ai, use the Muse Mac app.
4. When Muse asks to share information with this site, choose **Always allow this site**. One-time approvals can keep coming back without getting anywhere.
5. Your agent checks the connection and tells you when it's ready.

### Instinct

Not tested yet, and Instinct doesn't document MCP support. If your account shows MCP connection settings, try `https://better-together.fun/mcp`.

### Any other agent

If your agent supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, add `https://better-together.fun/mcp`. We can't promise it works until someone has tested it.

## If your agent runs in a sandbox

Some hosted agents can't add connectors or open a browser. If yours can't, it can't use Better Together yet, and it should say so rather than try a workaround.
